The NHS Long Term Plan commits to creating new and integrated models of primary and community mental health care that will support adults and older adults with severe mental illness (SMI).

The new community-based offer will include access to psychological therapies, improved physical health care, employment support, personalised and trauma-informed care, medicines management and support for self-harm and coexisting substance use.

Yorkshire and the Humber Mental Health Clinical Network is committed to improving the lives of people with SMI and our work programme will focus on both improvements in access to physical health interventions and improvements in access to psychological interventions.

The key deliverables for the PH-SMI work programme are:

  • Facilitating engagement and information sharing from relevant national, regional and local leads
  • rn
  • Supporting all local Clinical Commissioning Groups and Providers to deliver the required access to physical care interventions
  • rn
  • Developing an understanding of key questions in this area of work and sharing learning with stakeholders
  • rn
  • Disseminating relevant information from both NHS England and experts in this field

Psychological Therapies and Severe Mental Illness (PT-SMI)

The key deliverables for the PT-SMI work programme are:

  • Commissioning training courses to improve capacity to deliver PTs for SMI
  • rn
  • Raising profile amongst providers and commissioners of the importance of Psychological therapies within community-based MH care
  • rn
  • Developing guidance and standards as needed to support implementation of Psychological Therapies

  • Ensuring we can measure improvement in access
